GALAXY STAR PEACEMAKERS

The Love Center

At the Galaxy Star Love Center at 1315 Lischey Street in North Nashville, young men and women learn important life skills and receive tutoring and mentoring. It’s a peaceful environment where they can talk honestly with each other and with adults they can trust. Every night young people congregate at The Love Center is another night they’re off the streets – away from the pitfalls of drugs, violence and other criminal activity.

On-going programs at the Love Center include:

Back to Basics

The Back to Basics program is designed to serve youth and teens ages 12-18.  Classes are grouped according to age groups.  This life skills, character building program allows our children to create positive relationships with positive people.  In this supportive environment kids learn the skills necessary to become productive citizens and tomorrow's leaders

Straight Talk

The popular Let's End the Violence - Straight Talk meeting was one of the first programs Clemmie Greenlee organized when the Love Center Opened.  Straight Talk is a place for those who've lost loved ones to violence can share, grieve and vent.  And it's a place for all community members to talk about solutions.

Reading 4 Real

The newest program at The Love Center evolved through requests from the community for something that would help their children learn to read..for real.  Geared towards kids ages 4-8, the Reading 4 Real program is designed to enhance and improve reading skills while instilling a love of books for life in the hearts and minds of the next generation of Peacemakers.

Street Outreach Sessions (S.O.S.)

During weekly Street Outreach Sessions (S.O.S), in the high risk areas of Nashville where gangs, drugs, and violence are most prevalent, Peacemaker Ambassadors offer peer counseling and information about our after school mentoring programs. Information for drug and alcohol treatment as well as HIV / AIDS prevention information is passed along. We always encourage the young adults to come out and participate in our upcoming community-based anti-violence social activities. The Street Outreach program differs from other youth programs in that the Peacemaker Ambassadors provide direct interaction with those who deemed threats to society, by showing them another way.

Club Outreach

Nightclubs, teen parties, skate centers, and other places of social gatherings that are popular with young adults have seen an increase in violent conflict on their premises.  The Peacemaker Ambassadors have created a way to host “Teen Parties” by partnering with local businesses and skates centers. The Peacemaker Ambassadors sponsor a violence-free environment where youth and young adults can feel comfortable, be themselves, have a good time and enjoy "clean" music (music that does not promote violence, gang involvement, drug use or sales, and no explicit lyrics).  These drug and alcohol free events offer an alternative to hanging in the streets where kids can easily be influenced to use drugs or commit violent acts.  The parties provide an example for those in attendance that it is possible to have a good time without worrying about the harms and dangers that may arise at similar functions held at different venues.

Community Outreach

The Peacemaker Ambassadors attend several community events during the month, standing in unity as an example to lead a non-violent life. The Peacemaker Ambassadors often attend candle light vigils for those that have fallen victim to violence on the streets to offer support to grieving family and friends. We also provide outreach to those in attendance, with hopes that our message will prevent others from being victimized of senseless violence.
Rival Gangs come together pea efully. The Peacemaker Ambassadors also provide outreach in Nashville City Schools as well as Juvenile Detention Centers. Discussions are usually focused on violence prevention, and informing those in attendance about the support the Galaxy Star Love Center offers.

Peacemakers provide conflict resolutions sessions, alternatives to help avoid certain violent situations, and information on what to do when something violent has occurred.  These dialogues encourage students to avoid committing violent acts, and to keep those who are detained from becoming repeat offenders.
