About Us

Hope Born from Hopelessness

Galaxy  Star Drug Awareness is a 501 (c) 3, grassroots, non-profit organization born from the belief that everyone in our society is valuable and worth saving regardless of how far one has fallen.  Galaxy Star has been bringing a message of peace and providing resources for those who are affected by addiction, violent crimes, homelessness, substance abuse, and the spread of HIV/AIDS in Nashville, Tennessee and surrounding areas since 2001.

Galaxy Star provides  street-level outreach in high-risk areas, assisting thousands of individuals through the Emergency Services and  free HIV testing at our office with  referral for services and counseling if needed through a partnership with  the First Response Center.  Since November 2004 Galaxy Star Drug Awareness has been providing home-cooked Thanksgiving dinner to over 5000 homeless people in Nashville. Hot dinners are delivered on the streets, under bridges, in alleyways and parking lots. This past year alone, Galaxy Star Drug Awareness provided toys ranging from baby dolls to books, bicycles to electric-powered scooters for Christmas to over 400 underprivileged children whose parents struggle with addiction problems.

It is well documented that violence has become one of the nation's most endemic and epidemic crises. Nearly 350,000 Americans were victims to murders, robberies, and aggravated assaults in 2003 committed by perpetrators carrying a firearm, and our minority communities are the hardest hit. Clemmie Greenlee, one of Galaxy Star's founders,  experienced a parent's worst nightmare when her son  shot down in the streets of Nashville in a gang related incident. The violent death of her only son , along with the desire to stay clean from addiction and give back to her community, deeply  motivated Clemmie to speak out about the gun violence that is a growing problem in our city.   On July 12, 2007 Galaxy Star launched   GALAXY STAR PEACE MAKERS -LET'S END THE VIOLENCE ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

In 2007 The Nashville Scene named Clemmie Clemmie Greenlee Nashvillian of the year. This Her work with Galaxy Star has been featured in USA Today, Voice of America Radio, The Tennessean, and On the HomeStretch.
