This has been a hard week, but we’re moving forward.

First, I want to address these charges and say:
The leadership of Galaxy Star knows NOTHING of any illegal activity whatsoever happening here at Galaxy Star.
The leadership of Galaxy Star would never, under any circumstance, authorize any of the things listed in that report.
The leadership of Galaxy Star would NEVER allow Galaxy Star to issue a false community service letter.
And most of all: the leadership of Galaxy Star would NEVER authorize or allow a gang meeting to occur on this property.

Galaxy Star Love Center is a place of peace.

It’s a place where we invite young people to come to talk about ALTERNATIVES to violence.

So we are just as shocked as you are about these allegations.

If anything illegal did happen here, it was without Galaxy Star’s knowledge, and we are searching for answers too.

All we know to do is keep moving forward to reach our kids.

And today I want to tell you about what DOES happen here at Galaxy Star:

On Monday nights, we have Back to Basics classes.
We have 23 girls in the class
They come every week
We teach them life skills they may not learn at home
Four of our girls just graduated from high school
Two have been accepted to college and one will be going into the army

On Tuesday nights, we have Straight Talk – Let’s End the Violence meetings.
This is a chance for kids to come here and have an honest talk about what they’re going through
It’s a chance for people who’ve lost loved ones to violence to share their story
It’s a place where we build trust
It’s a place where we grieve together
It’s a place where we work on solutions
And it’s a place where we pledge to be peacemakers and end the violence in our community

On Wednesday nights during the  school year, we help children from kindergarten to fourth grade with their reading.

On Sunday mornings, we’ve have an informal church services, where everyone is invited to come as they are. Lake Providence Choir comes and sings on every first Sunday.

On other days, we serve food, have music or movies, and we have a place where kids could hang out, relax, play cards, and have fun. We have an understanding that this is a place of peace. We feel the kids relax as they came through these doors and know they are free from the pressure of the street for a while. They have mentors they can talk to, and they have somebody who believes in them.

That’s what we do at Galaxy Star. Our mission is to end the violence. We start that by showing kids that they are somebody. That they have a bright future ahead of them.

All we can do right now is seek answers but keep moving on. There are kids on the streets who need our help. They need to know that somebody cares about them. They don’t have to be statistics, they can be doctors, lawyers, scientists, artists, teachers. They can be anything they want to be if we believe in them.

In closing I want to say: Please get to know Galaxy Star and the work we’re doing. Get to know our young men and young women. See the stars that we see. Check our website, GalaxystarDA.org, for updates on our work.

We need the support of our community more than ever. There are still kids to be reached and work to be done.

Thank you for coming here today and giving Galaxy Star the chance to be heard.

What if every at-risk teenager in Nashville had a place to go and express themselves besides the streets? A place to relax ....  safe from drugs and guns ... free from the struggles of a complicated life at home (due to divorce or a single parent family) ... a place where their thoughts and ideas could be expressed and they were held accountable for their actions?

How would such a place change our school systems, juvenile detention centers, prisons,

homeless shelters, rehabilitation centers and cemeteries? How would it change the media headlines? More so, how would it change the history of Nashville, Tennessee?

Lots of questions with only one answer…. Galaxy Star Love Center!!!

Galaxy Star Peacemakers

The Galaxy Star Peacemakers Love Center is a word-of -mouth wonder that is helping  to change the lives of many young adults within our community everyday.  Most of the young adults hear about the Love Center through friends and drop by after school. That friend then brings another friend and so and so on. One may wonder, what keeps their attention? Well we’re glad you asked.

Galaxy Star provides community outreach to high-risk teens by inoculating the young adults on the consequences of violence as well as highly encouraging their participation in the campaign to end violence. Galaxy Star also provides drug awareness sessions to ensure teens are equipped to handle the many pressures faced in today’s society. Please feel free to visit our programs page for more details.

The Love Center

The Galaxy Star Love Center is located at 1315 Lischey Street in North Nashville, where young men and women learn important life skills and receive tutoring and mentoring. It’s a peaceful environment where they can talk honestly with each other and with adults they can trust. Each night our young adults congregates at The Love Center, is another night they are off the streets – away from the pitfalls of drugs, violence and other criminal activities.
